Dead Pledge is the English translation of the 13th century French term "mortgage": mort [dead] + gage [pledge]. So called because the debt ends "dies" when the loan obligaton is fullfilled.

Welcome to my blog! I have been thinking about using Dead Pledge as my office name for decades now but have not yet had the nerve to make the change.....for now, I'm just using Dead Pledge as my new blog name
